Do Brasil para Estados Unidos
CWB- SP- NJ
O voo atrasou, ansiedade a mil.
English Version
Today when I think about everything that happened, it's hard to remember exactly the reasons that took me away from my old reality. It's kind of all a blur.
The truth is that I barely remember the day I left Brazil for the first time, but remembering dates is not my thing. So let's skipp that part.
One day in mid-March I hugged my dad, my mom and my sister, grabbed my bags and boarded the flight to São Paulo. It was my first time at such a big and crowded airport but I was still in Brazil so it was easy to find the information I needed. Even so, I already felt strange, not knowing much what to do in the 8 hours I would have to wait at that airport to open the gates to New Jersey. So many things went through my head like; will I get lost there? will I make friends? will everything work out with the family I've chosen? Will I have enough money to start? I never had a lot of money, not it all. All the money that went into my account left right away to pay for something like college, cell phone... and that was it.
Anyways, it was on a line at the airport that I met the first Brazilian aupair going on the same flight as me. It kind of gave me a relief to see that I wasn't lost alone... there were a lot of other girls in the same situation as me. In fact, as the line progressed I realized that some of them were much more lost than I was. I sent a message to Gabriela, a girl who was going to the same city as me in the United States. We arranged to meet and be friends since we were about to go to the same madness together. But then I found out that she was already an experienced traveller, that she had already done an exchange student thing in the United States and that her English was perfect. No, I didn't feel the least bit intimidated by her English..no sir, just kdding but i really felt a relief to have someone by my side who speaks much better English than mine and who could help me if I needed it. We found many aupairs at the airport, all going to the same training place in New Jersey. The flight was delayed, anxiety running wild. Inside the airplane I tried to sleep, I tried to relax but it was hard. So I gave up and put on a movie to watch. Queen movie, in the end I finally got to sleep and rest for a few hours until I arrived in NJ.
